We’ve all done it, or at least most of us people frequenting these sites have tried hotboxing at one point – in a bathroom, in the attic, in a phone booth or in a car, especially in a car. Rich cannabis smoke takes over the vehicle’s interior (just like it does our brain) and clouds the windows like London fog, turning your eyes a twilight red. All right, enough with all that. We’ve all done it but no one turned it into… a TV show!

Nobody but B-Real, the rapper from the Californian group, Cypress Hill, who set up a couple of cameras in his ride and invited the most colourful characters from the hip-hop and cannabis scene in the U.S. (ie. those friends of his that picked up the phone) to talk in the Jay Leno style – and, of course, while smoking some really good pot.

Although to be more exact, B-Real is not the show’s host, but rather his alter ego, Dr. Greenthumb, a supposed marijuana grower who starred in one of the group’s famous singles in 1998. Now crazy old B-Real has reassumed the identity of Greenthumb to try to knock down by way of THC such distinguished artists as Method Man, Redman, Xzibit, Mr. Vegas and the great Snoop Dog.

It is no easy task, but it is not a competition either. In fact, the conversations are usually relaxed and wide-ranging, naturally filled with humour and laughter. However, don’t get on Snoop Dog’s bad side since he makes it clear that nobody can smoke him out. He actually complains that many people are always trying to challenge him to smoke out when all he really wants is just to smoke a joint with friends like B-Real

The show is called The Smoke Box and you’ll find all the videos in the above link. Take a look and buy any of the merchandising gadgets (obviously) sold by B-Real: The methacrylate mouthpieces must have been at least NASA-made. A lot of the videos already have half a million views, which has made this format a viral phenomenon for the pothead season in the U.S.

Though when you get down to it, the conversations mostly shift between marijuana, trivial anecdotes, ‘joning’ and jokes. Now and then they glance at each other to see how their friend’s joint experience is going. It is like we have already said; this is friendly smoking but always within a competitive context.

The task becomes increasingly difficult given the density of the smoke after a few minutes. But, just hold on. Who does this remind you of? Of course it reminds you of your neighbourhood friends, but also of Cheech & Chong themselves!
